Marketing for Fire Protection Companies

Helping buyers see every service you’re certified to deliver

Whether you call yourselves a fire protection service, a life safety systems company or simply “the fire alarm people”, your fire protection marketing needs to help the right buyer see what you do, believe you do it properly and get in touch before they ring someone else.

Lollipop is the marketing agency for third-party certified Fire & Security companies. Since 2010 we’ve worked with more than 75 companies in the sector.

Your customers may not know everything you do

A customer who calls you every year about their fire alarm may have no idea you also install emergency lighting, inspect fire doors or service extinguishers. So when that work comes up, it goes to whoever they find first.

Sandy Westlake saw this at Armoury Security + Fire once their new website went live:

“They’ve gone to the website and said: ‘Oh, I didn’t know you did that…’”

Sandy Westlake, Director, Armoury Security + Fire

That’s work you’re already certified and equipped to do. Good fire protection marketing makes sure your existing customers and new buyers can see all of it.

The fire protection services we market

Each service is bought for different reasons, often by different people. Your marketing needs to show each one clearly.

Many of the fire protection companies we work with offer more than fire alarms. If you also install or maintain fire doors, fire stopping or shutters, we market those too.

Fire alarm installation

New buildings, refurbishments, changes of use and systems at the end of their working life all create installation work, from conventional and addressable systems to aspirating smoke detection. Buyers want to see that you design and install to BS 5839-1 and that your certification covers the work you’re quoting for.

Fire alarm maintenance and monitoring

Maintenance and monitoring contracts are where the long-term value of a customer builds up. The marketing job here is to be the obvious choice when a contract comes up for renewal or a current provider lets someone down. Read more about winning fire and security maintenance contracts and monitoring vs maintenance.

Emergency lighting

Emergency lighting can be bought separately from the fire alarm. Failed tests and remedial lists create recurring work, yet a buyer has to know you offer emergency lighting before they’ll ask you to quote.

Fire extinguishers

Annual servicing brings you onto site every year. BAFE SP101 registration gives buyers something they can check. That annual visit can also open conversations about alarms, lighting and doors, as long as the customer knows you offer them.

Fire suppression

Gaseous and kitchen suppression systems protect the rooms a business can least afford to lose, such as server rooms and commercial kitchens. Buyers can check BAFE registration for both, so the marketing job is to make that registration visible alongside the work you’ve done.

Fire doors

Fire door repairs and replacements can appear on fire risk assessment action plans. The company that makes its fire door competence easy to check is the one buyers can choose with confidence. Read more about fire door competency.

Fire stopping and passive fire protection

Once fire stopping is behind a wall or above a ceiling, a buyer can’t see it. That puts more weight on what they can see before they appoint you: third-party certification for the installer and a clear record of work done.

Fire shutters and fire curtains

This is specialist work with a smaller pool of installers. Buyers searching for it are often further along in their decision, so being easy to find and easy to check matters.

Introducing Lollipop's Fire & Security Visibility Engine™

Why Our Process Starts With Clarity

Marketing is built for the average. Average company. Average buyer. Average risk.

But specialist Fire & Security businesses don't get judged fairly when everything that makes them different is squeezed into the same price comparison.

If you're third-party certified and still being judged mainly on price, the problem isn't your competence. It's that the buyer can't see enough of it to choose you for it.

You've invested in third-party certification, you have years of specialism and a track record that stands up. Then the buyer gets three proposals, three websites or three names on a tender list - and all that difference disappears.

Same spreadsheet. Same price column. Same race to the bottom.

This isn't a hunch. In the NSI and BAFE Fire Safety Buyers Report 2026, 94% of buyers said proof of competence matters more to them than cost. They want to choose you. They just need to be able to see why they should.

That's the problem we exist to fix. We start with clarity instead.

  • Find The Gaps. An audit of where you're visible, where you're not, and what a buyer looking for you today would actually find.
  • Who What Why. The framework that defines your ideal customer, your core offer and the reasons the right buyer should understand, believe and choose you.
  • Lollipop Growth Plan. Shaped by our Black Belt Sales Framework and prioritised so you know what to do first.

Then we build. The right audience, specialist content and proof that shows buyers what you can actually do, and consistent visibility so you become the name they already know when the contract comes up.

That's how we turn reputation into revenue.

I’m a third-party certified Fire & Security Installer

I want commercial clients to see our competence, so we win more installations and maintenance contracts

I want to sell my products to Installers

I’ve got a no-brainer product that Installers and their clients will love – but hardly anyone knows I exist! I need visibility!

Who we work with

We work with established fire protection companies that already do things properly. You’re likely to be a strong fit if you have:

  • been trading for 3+ years
  • 10+ commercial clients
  • £350k+ turnover
  • third-party certification for the work you want to grow, through NSI, SSAIB or registration to a relevant BAFE scheme

Why these criteria?

Marketing puts more of the right people in front of your work, so there needs to be something solid for them to find. Third-party certification gives buyers a way to check you. Your commercial clients give us real work and real customers to show. Your turnover tells us you can take on more work when the enquiries come in.

If you’re not quite there yet, we’ll tell you what to fix first. You can also read more about our marketing for fire and security installers.

Family-run fire protection companies

Some of the fire protection companies we work with are family-run, and some are preparing to hand the business on to the next generation. Marketing that makes it clear what you do, who you do it for and why customers stay can help with that handover, whether the next step is a family successor or a sale. From certification to enquiries

Ready to Move Beyond Subcontracting?

For many good Fire & Security installers, competence has never been the problem. They've spent years doing the work for somebody else.

The challenge comes when they want customers, contracts and recurring revenue of their own.

That was the position Terry found himself in at SFPS.

"We knew we needed to move away from relying so much on subcontracting and start building our own customer base, but Jo was honest from the start that our marketing needed to be built on the right foundations - including the right qualifications and third-party certification.

She encouraged us to get BAFE registered and make third-party certification a visible part of our positioning, so the website and marketing would be built on something solid.

Once we were ready, Jo helped us bring everything together properly. The new website looks professional, reflects who we are, and gives us a much stronger platform to grow from.

We've already had an enquiry from someone who found us on the BAFE website, visited the new website, and then got in touch about replacing fire detectors.

It was a great feeling because it showed the certification, the visibility, and the website were starting to work together."

Results vary by company, market and starting position

Fire protection marketing FAQs

What makes Lollipop different from other agencies offering fire protection marketing?

We’ve worked in fire and security since 2010, and every installation company we work with is third-party certified. So we start with what your buyers check. The Responsible Person signing off your quote, or the facilities manager advising them, wants to see that you’re NSI or SSAIB certified or BAFE registered for the work, that you work to the right standards, such as BS 5839-1 for fire alarms and BS 5266-1 for emergency lighting, and that you can show a record of work done. We make that competence easy for them to find and easy to check, so they can choose you with confidence instead of defaulting to the cheapest quote.

Do you work with our competitors?

If there’s a genuine conflict with an existing client, we’ll tell you before anything goes further.

What counts as a conflict is less obvious than it looks. Two fire protection companies can cover the same area and still occupy very different positions. One might be the go-to maintenance provider for care homes and schools. Another might win installation and passive fire work through main contractors. The offer and the reason to choose them are different. Working out where a company actually sits is exactly what our Who, What, Why process is for.

So sometimes fire protection companies in the same area approach us and there’s no problem at all. Sometimes there is and we say so. Either way you’ll know.

Can you market just one fire protection service, such as emergency lighting?

Yes. Phase 1 of the Fire & Security Visibility Engine™  shows where the opportunity is across your fire protection services. If one service is under-sold, such as emergency lighting, extinguishers or fire doors, that’s where we start.

What if we’re not certified for every fire protection service we offer?

We market the fire protection services your certification covers and tell you where the gaps are. Buyers can check your certification on the NSI, SSAIB and BAFE registers and marketing a service your certification doesn’t cover is a risk to your reputation.

How will we know our fire protection marketing is working?

We agree what to measure in Phase 1 of the Fire & Security Visibility Engine™: enquiries for each service, where they came from and which ones turn into quotes and contracts. That includes maintenance, remedial and extra-service work from customers you already have, not just new installations, so cross-sales are counted too. We can only track what your team records, so if your sales process is inconsistent we’ll flag it and help you fix it.
